Introduction to Early Church History Class
Starting Sunday, May 24th, Ben Silliman invites you to a three-week introduction to church history at 1:00-2:00 pm on Zoom. Any and all are invited to join in this interactive overview of the significance of the early years of the church.
The Church in the Early Years: Where it All Began
How did those 20 centuries go by so fast? Well, most of us weren’t there for 19 of them. Few of us have a clear recollection of the course of church history, even if we learned about it in school or church. Yet we learn a great deal about who we are by where we’ve been. So come stick your foot in the river of history for three weeks: one brief overview of the flow and themes from a Christian worldview, and two brief glances into the Second and Third Century Church. Most of us know relatively little about “where it all began.” But Dr. Michael Kruger at Reformed Seminary Charlotte helps in his book “Christianity at the Crossroads” (2017, IVP) underline the importance of why we need to know “where we came from.” And ironically, many aspects will
sound eerily similar to today. Join us on Zoom at 1 PM, May 24, 31, and June 7.
For those interested in going deeper here are a few resources that will be referred to in the class, and will provide good material for further study.
This talk by Michael Horton will be helpful background to the first session as it looks at Paul’s preaching in Acts 17 and the thought world of the Roman Empire at the time.
